homemade energy bars

Energy bars are the ideal complement to carry in your sports bag or for a long walk and to satisfy any craving. Why not make them at home and have them with your favorite ingredients?

Besides customizing them to your tastes, it is easier than you think. Today we bring you a recipe for homemade energy bars to prove it.

Preparation method for the homemade energy bars

  1. Start by placing the dried fruits in a bowl of hot water for 20 minutes. This step will help those that are not very juicy at first. Afterward, drain them and cut them into pieces.
  2. Then, grind the dried fruits with the extra virgin olive oil from Spain in a blender or food processor.
  3. Remove the mixture and set aside.
  4.  Then, place the chopped dried fruits in the same blender or food processor. Grind them to obtain a paste.
  5. Mix the paste prepared with the dried fruit and the other dried fruit in a bowl.
  6. Sequently, add the cereals, cocoa powder, cinnamon, salt, and grated coconut. This step is ideal for you to adjust the spices and grated coconut according to your liking.
  7.  Once mixed, you should obtain a dough that sticks to the ingredients while taking it in your hand and squeezing it, but without sticking to your fingers. Since this dough depends on the moisture of the nuts for its consistency and stickiness, it is essential to check its texture.
  8. If the dough is too sticky, add more crushed nuts or cereals according to the type of bar you like.
  9. On the other hand, if the dough is dry, add a splash of water or more extra virgin olive oil from Spain. Afterward, mix the ingredients.
  10.  Take and brush a rectangular mold with extra virgin olive oil from Spain. For instance, this step will let you unmold them easily when ready.
  11. Roll out the dough and flatten it so that it is compact.
  12. Place a piece of plastic wrap on top and leave to set for 1 to 2 hours.
  13.  Cut each homemade energy bar into the desired size per serving and unmold. As a recommendation, this recipe makes about 12.
  14. If you are not eating them right after, freeze them to prevent them from losing consistency and freshness.

There is nothing better than knowing what you are eating, and with these homemade energy bars, you are in total control of the ingredients you consume.

As an additional tip, you can include some of these ingredients to make variations, mixing them with the dried fruit steps, such as flaxseed, pumpkin or sunflower seeds, sesame, chocolate chips, cranberries, etc. Indeed, as alternatives for cocoa powder, you can add matcha tea powder, açai, or dehydrated seaweed powder.

We hope you enjoyed this recipe for homemade energy bars. Furthermore, not only are they delicious, but they are also a great way to save money compared to store-bought snack options.
