Onions caramelized in olive oil recipe

Caramelized onions are an essential part of any chefs’ repertoire. They can be paired with just about anything, from elaborate and fancy meals to quick foods. From onion soup, to sofrito, to a topper on your hotdog or hamburger; good caramelized onions can make even a simple meal decadent and flavorful.  Caramelized onions are typically made with yellow onions but there are no rules saying you can or cannot caramelize one onion or another! Experiment! The method described in the recipe is the same, but whichever onion you choose don’t skimp on high quality Olive Oils from Spain for the best results!

Preparation:

  1. Chop two or three yellow onions into slices
  2. Heat a medium size nonstick pan over low - medium heat.
  3. Add Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Spain, and gently heat, add onions.
  4. Cover pan and let cook over low heat, stirring periodically so the onions cook evenly.
  5. Continue to cook until the onions are evenly browned and caramelized.
