How to make a Cuban midnight sandwich step by step

  1. Cut the midnight bread in half horizontally. If you prefer, you can lightly toast them in a skillet over medium heat, adding a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil to prevent sticking. This will add a crispy texture and an extra flavor to the bread.
  2. Spread a layer of yellow mustard on the inside parts of both halves of the bread.
  3. Start assembling the sandwich by first placing the slices of ham, followed by the roasted pork, Swiss cheese, and finally, the pickle slices.
  4. Heat a skillet or grill over medium heat. If you have a sandwich press, now is the perfect time to use it. If not, you can improvise by placing another skillet on top of the sandwich and pressing lightly. Before placing the sandwich in the skillet, brush the outside of the bread with a little extra virgin olive oil from Spain. This will help the bread toast evenly and acquire a delicious flavor.
  5. Cook the sandwich until the bread is golden and crispy and the cheese has melted, about 3-5 minutes per side. Make sure to press the sandwich occasionally to compact the ingredients and achieve that characteristic texture of Cuban sandwiches.
