Spain is at the forefront world leader in terms of both the quality and quantity of olive oil produced and marketed. We are also the largest consumer and exporter in the world. Globally, just over 3 million tons of olive oil are produced. Spain produces an average of 1.4 million tons of olive oil. This means that one out of every two bottles of olive oil sold in the world comes from Spain.

Spaniards consume 11.2 kg of olive oil per capita annually. Olive oil is very healthy and a significant part of the Mediterranean diet. Although we have the highest consumption in the world, more than 60% of the oil produced is sold in other markets.
