flavored olive oil

If the answer is yes, we have a great tip for you on how you can give your favorite olive oil even more flavor: Flavored extra virgin olive oil.

With ginger, coriander, or lemon flavor, you’re guaranteed to impress your friends at the next dinner party. The best thing is that flavoring olive oil is quick and easy.

We give you tips on how and with what you can give your olive oil a new flavor.

Tips for flavoring olive oil

You can use different ingredients to flavor olive oil. From herbs and spices to citrus, let your imagination run wild.

However, there are a few things you should keep in mind before start aromatizing olive oil.

Use fresh ingredients

To flavor olive oil, be sure to use fresh herbs or spices. You don’t want to contaminate the oil. Carefully wash all the ingredients.

Allow the herbs to get dried

If you use herbs that already have a high moisture content, you should let them dry for at least 24 hours. It includes rosemary and thyme, for example. Herbs with small, thin leaves should be left to dry for more than 24 hours, as it takes longer to extract the moisture.

Choose the right container

Use a glass bottle with a screw cap to store the olive oil. We recommend that you rinse it hot before use. The stopper is important to preserve the aroma.

Once you have taken these points into account, you are ready to go.

Aromatized olive oil

Here are some ideas of what you can flavor your olive oil with:

Spicy ginger oil

Do you like the natural spiciness of ginger? Then a spicy-flavored ginger oil is just what you need.

Use about 375 ml of olive oil and 400 grams of ginger. Peel the ginger bulb and cut it into thin slices. Place the ginger pieces in a pot and pour the high-quality olive oil over them. Gently heat the olive oil for about 40 minutes. Once the 40 minutes are up, you can pass the oil through a strainer to remove the ginger slices. Now just pour it into a glass bottle and you’re done! Let the oil cool with the lid on and store it in a place away from light.

Coriander oil for an Asian touch

Do you want to give your dishes a special Asian touch? Then you are sure to like coriander oil.

Use half a liter of extra virgin olive oil, 3 stalks of fresh cilantro and, if necessary, 3 pieces of lemongrass and red chili peppers.

Clean the cilantro and let it dry for at least 24 hours. Once it is completely dry, put it in a glass jar and pour the olive oil over the cilantro. Lemongrass and chili peppers can be added as needed.

Close the jar and put it in a place away from light. For great flavor, it is recommended to leave the bottle for at least 2 weeks for the cilantro flavor to develop properly. Shake the bottle from time to time and taste if you are already satisfied with the intensity of the flavor. When you have decided that the olive oil is sufficiently flavored, you can strain the oil through a strainer and use it to refine your dishes.

Mediterranean spices

Are you a fan of Mediterranean cuisine? Then you can easily bring the Mediterranean aroma into your kitchen.

Choose your favorite spices, such as rosemary, thyme, and oregano, and place the individual sprigs in a glass jar. Now fill with about 100 milliliters of olive oil and screw the lid on tightly. Now is the time for the herbs to develop their aroma. Leave the jar in a dark place for about 2 weeks. Shake the jar from time to time. As soon as the olive oil has acquired the desired flavor, you can strain the oil through a strainer. And you have an incomparable olive oil that is perfect for salads.
